Construction begins on track reconfiguration in Guelph

By shost at 3:50 pm on Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Update: in Guelph, contractors and Goderich and Exeter personnell are busy at the site of the VIA Station, so far:

  • The former platform (between track 1 and track 2) has been removed, lighting (which dated to the 40′s) was removed, and some of track #2 and the rest of track #3 (where GO trains parked 1990-1993) is now  removed
  • Work on utilities in the area is progressing

This work is believed to encompass the Wyndham St. Bridge project, but the removal of the middle platform is for the apparent track reconfiguration which is to occur.

The Neeve St. pedestrian bridge is still open, and fencing has not yet gone up. I would expect this to be closed and fenced fairly quickly though.

Guelphites will be glad to hear this news as it means one of the last Economic Stimulus grant projects has proceeded without much further delay due to weather. This project was delayed due to the time it took to get CN, GEXR, and GO to work with the City on negotiations in the area.
