Coach Canada cancels Hamilton-Guelph bus service

By shost at 1:39 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2009

A blow to students and people who study or work/live in Guelph or Hamilton.  As a previous user of this service  it leaves even fewer direct routes between both cities..

What alternatives are available? I don’t believe Greyhound has direct service. Users can connect via Toronto (GO Transit, VIA Rail, Greyhound) but at the cost of a two hour drive (versus about 45 minutes of the previous route). Anyone with knowledge in this regard, please feel free to add in the Comments section.

What about service up to Kitchener and then going over to Guelph? The travel time might not be as long, but the connection times may not work. Hopefully GO can fill in the void in service (either between Guelph and Hamilton or simply between KW and Guelph). Weekday options can get you between Hamilton and Guelph through Square One in a little over 1.5 hours.

If GO Transit re-routed some of their Niagara Falls buses into Hamilton GO rather than Burlington (say the 0530 ex NF to meet the 0634 from Hunter Street rather than joining it later at Burlington) and continued them to Guelph and/or Kitchener you could have the beginnings of north-south cross-radial GO service. Maybe when more services originate from Hamilton rather than Aldershot/Burlington?
