Kitchener-Waterloo Record: “Province looks at ways out of Guelph”

By shost at 11:32 am on Friday, February 9, 2007

From the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, Feb 9 2007:

“The Ministry of Transportation announced its plans — known as the GTA west corridor — to examine the stretch of land from Highway 6 in Guelph to Highway 400 with the aim of finding alternative ways to move more people and goods across the area.”

The article mentions plans were made known in January 2006. The Record says: “The result could be another 400 series highway, a rail system or an expansion of current highways.”

Of the people questioned, many supported both road and rail, and re-use of existing corridors. Lastly, The article mentions the study is not expected to be complete for 2 years time.

Could this be a catalyst to GO train service? GO service could re-use an existing corridor, at minimal cost, and take many commuter vehicles off the 400 series highways in and out of Guelph. Why Kitchener-Waterloo is not mentioned is beyond me..
