Acton station plans?

By shost at 10:43 am on Sunday, July 10, 2011

Just a note — while Guelph is under major construction¬† (owing to the City of Guelph projects) and the Kitchener layover facility is under construction, Acton “hide house” station is basially, untouched. A large fence straddles the railway line and it is clear the fence has to be removed to allow commuters to access the train. What’s the plan for Acton and wouldn’t GO start work if trains are to start rolling in 2011?

Have you written to GO/Metrolinx about this?

I’ve received an email from Mr. Greg Ashbee (Manager, Infrastructure Expansion Planning). He’s provided the following information, for what it’s worth:

1. The service dates are still “by the end of 2011″. Expect an announcement when we are farther along in the construction and more confident that we can meet the date. September or October would be my guess.

2. Service would begin with Kitchener, Guelph and Acton Stations. The Breslau Station will take longer and would not be in line for opening day.

3. Our standard practice is that the fare is the same whether you take the bus or train so it should give you a good idea of the ticket price for the trip. The final fare for the train, however, has not yet been set since there may be an adjustment between now and opening day. Again look for an announcement regarding the final schedules and fares sometime closer to the opening of service.
