Some updates: Kitchener layover facility has track — and results of a TriTAG survey on weekend service demand

By shost at 8:30 pm on Monday, September 26, 2011

Gord Spence sends us the following on the GO layover facility construction:

New mainline switch (Just east of the Huron Park Switch)

Switch Connecting the GO Siding to the Main Line

Ballast to be laid, notice the distance between the tracks and the concrete berm – this indicates there is very little room for an additional track if a third is required — it will likely require a new storage facility or mainline reconfiguration (highly unlikely given costs involved!)

New Track

And this picture facing west: not much room for extra tracks:

Main Line -> Siding 1 and Siding 2

And finally, Michael Druker sends this information — the results of a survey TriTAG conducted “about the demand for GO train service fgrom Kitchener on weekdays and weekends”

Thanks to Michael and Gord for the contributions! Keep them coming. Sorry about the errant post below, technical difficulties with my browser..

Good to see signs of progress. I’ll be on the first train out of here. I will not miss the drive to Milton GO!
