GO Trains to start before 2012, announcement and date still pending: GO Transit

By shost at 12:47 pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Thanks to Nick A and Gord S for the tips: Go Transit is still adamant that trains will begin rolling before 2012 begins. With only a month and a half left in this year, it seems rather odd that the schedule and fare has not been published or announced. Surely political forces are at work as they want to live up to the promise of a 2011 launch.

Kitchener MPP John Malloy has gone on “Record”┬áto state just this.

The following was posted on GOKW.ORG by Sean:

@TriTAG (Blog Waterloo) Twitter just tweeted:
Not official, but word is that GO Train service from Kitchener to start on December 19.

For what it’s worth, GO supporters and commuters wait with bated breath for the start of service.

Anyone been to Acton lately? Will they have a station stop?

GO will have the same fares for bus and train, so the fares have already been published!

From what I’ve heard from a friend who has been in Acton in the past few days is that there’s nothing at all started there…

I was in Acton the other day and saw nothing in my drive by the Hide House. Relatives who live in Acton haven’t heard anything either.

I have this sneaky suspicion Acton won’t have a GO Train stop but still have buses for the time being until they can (a) find some cash to build the station (b) pave it in spring

In the Acton Tanner, from about 2 weeks ago, and from talking to the city powers, platforms will be installed in the next few weeks, 2 ticket machines at each end of the platforms and a presto machine in the center. Survey crews were on site the last 3 weeks. Parking at Olde Hide House at the north end (old station lot) by agreement with OHH and Halton Hills. Double tracking to begin in spring 2012 from 5 sideroad to behind Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen.

One assumption may be that there will be minimal disruption of GO services outside the Guelph extension – meaning the trains leaving from Guelph will arrive in time for their current Georgetown connection, i.e. 6:22 am departure (and another one). Other useful notes: the approximate average speed of the GO Train between Georgetown and Mount Pleasant is 48 km/h; and the approximate track distance between Guelph and Georgetown is 31 km.
