Considering using GO Trains? detailed pricing, multiple trip discounts, parking, and comparison to VIA

By shost at 5:22 pm on Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Some pricing of single, multiple ride, and monthly passes on both GO and VIA (in case you were considering the more comfortable, and faster ride on VIA 86/87 instead). Also recall some of the options below have tax benefits/deductions:

Single   10-pack       Mnthly Pass      VIA supersaver        VIA 20 pak

Kitchener        $14.60      $135            $482                   $25.99                       $328.83

Guelph            $11.70      $108.25       $386                   $22.60                       $299.45

Parking: Guelph parking can be had at various parking lots, the least expensive lots are $35/month for a pass and most expensive $80/month.

Guelph parking details can be found here: http://guelph.ca/uploads/PDF/Parking/Bylaw036363.pdf

Transit: Guelph has yet to announce any integration measures (reduced transit fares, or parking) but this is in the works. Kitchener just announced theirs (see post below for details)

Clearly there are options to reduce your cost and time, which each person will analyze and choose based on their situation. Choose wisely :)

Low bus fare approved for GO train riders and I actually like it! It offers monthly GO passengers the option of having a monthly $18 for a monthly pass.

City of Guelph agenda item has more details. Still not sure when buses will start in the morning since the service currently would miss the first train out.

Steven, The Manager of Transit told me at the GO announcement their priority is to solve the GO issue and make sure a bus gets there on time. They are working on a solution, and I expect it will be quite last minute like most of this has been :)

There is no Presto machine at the Kitchener Station. Why start a service without being able to leverage Presto when GO has already indicated that 10 rides are being retired?

Presto will be installed in time for Janaury if not February.
