I still don’t understand how officials rationalize getting rid of all parking at the via station in Guelph. It feels like the city of Guelph doesn’t care about the commuting community. I’m sure its a result of some complicated political dance between Via and the municipality, but the end result is the same. Being on the south end of Guelph, there is really no way I would ever take the GO from Guelph. I would have to either drive and park at my own expense nearby, or add more time to my commute waiting for municipal transit. It makes no sense to me at all.

Chris, you are confusing the matter, the City is not responsible for GO or VIA parking, it’s actually GO or VIA themselves that have to supply an option for their services.

The city needed the room for the Transit Hub and not for parking, and since they own the space they can do what they want with it.

GO or VIA could build their own parking lots or garages, or they could offer a parking pass (paid to the city by GO or VIA) for their customers at nearby lots.

I get the impression something will be in the works in the coming years, but it is obviously not ready now.

Currently, the city says you can park at West End rec Centre and take the GO Shuttle or park at the Walmart (although this has not be 100% confirmed to me) and take the shuttle. It is a temporary solution and long term, I know for a fact, GO is working on a deal with the city for parking spots in the parkade and/or nearby such as Fountain Street.

I took the express this morning. It was very quick and I have plenty of time if I needed to buy a ticket or use the washroom etc. My only beef is coming home. The train pulled in about 3 minutes early but I could not make it to the square to catch the bus home. I basically had to kill 25 minutes in downtown at a time when many stores are already closed (7:30pm)
