Four trains from Kitchener effective yesterday – anyone riding them?

By shost at 8:41 am on Wednesday, September 7, 2016

So, we’ve finally seen an addition of service, nearly five years since the first GO trains out of Kitchener. Anyone riding them? How are they going?

Four trains now depart Kitchener station in the morning with four corresponding departures out of Toronto – and one of the trips runs express from Bramalea to Toronto shaving 12 minutes off the trip.

Welcome news – but will anyone use the earliest and latest departures is the real question. Post your response below.

I use the Guelph train since 2012 and have used most of the new train times this week due to work adjustments. I have counted about 12-16 or so people on the 5:48 a.m. train, been a very large increased in the number getting on the Express train at 6:28. The late train from Toronto at 6:50 had about 12-14 people get off the train at Guelph. I’ll be riding the 4:50 Express on Friday night. Saving those 12 minutes actually ‘feels’ faster because of the skipped stops.

I’m not a regular GO train user, but I can see that the two new early morning trains are going to suffer from the fact that riders will be unable to get to the train station on GRT. So that means people who do ride will have to have a patient person willing to drop them off really early, or drive themselves and park at the station.

I know GO had to work with what traffic agreements they could negotiate with CN. Hopefully, they are forgiving on the minimum ridership numbers they will tolerate to keep the early morning trains running. Sometime in the future, GRT is going to have to consider an earlier start to service, at least on their main arterial routes.

That’s interesting Scott, why didn’t GRT add shuttles to the GO station?

Guelph Transit immediately added a shuttle….

What we really needed was an 8:30 train, imo. Do a lot of people really commute at 5:45 daily? That was a real surprise. We were sure they’d fill the gap between the 7:30 Go and the 9:30 VIA (which isn’t dependable since it comes from further out.) Many downtown employers reasonably expect Go riders to work on the train and then show up at ten, not at 9:00 anymore. Wonder what was up with that decision. Freight conflicts?

Evrosa I am surprised that 10 AM is considered acceptable. Around here most people start work at 8 AM :)

AN 8:30 train would put you into Toronto at 10 AM, 9:30 at the earliest if an express service was ever launched.
