1. Do you believe our region needs to improve commuter service to areas outside of our cities, particularly the GTA?

Absolutely, I have been involved for years to get better rail service for Acton. As a matter of fact in 1991 we did have GO Train leaving Acton.

Unfortuantely, the NDP took it out after only two years of service.

Today I have been on a committee with Mayor’s from Stratford, Kitchener and Guelph as we work towards what is called the Mainline North Rail Service. We have done a feasability study and we feel it is workable. We are now working with FCM ( Federation of Canadian Muncipalities ) to ask them to lobby uptier governments on our behalf for funding.

2. If so, what do you believe the best solution(s) would be to improve this service, and what would you do to bring in any such services as councillors or as the Mayor?

See above.

3. If you do not feel that commuting is or will become a serious problem for our region in the near future, what do you believe to be the case?

I do beleive commuting is a problem. Today over 15000 cars travel through Acton on each and every day. I’m not sure how many go through Georgetown but it would have to be similar.

4. Do you have any additional comments on this topic for us?
